barneyrobin: BROTP SUMMER RE-WATCH - WEEK 8 - LiveJournal

Hi guys! I'm so very sorry this is so late, I fail at keeping track of dates. I don't know if this is of any use now, but I hope we'll have a great discussion in tomorrow's post anyway. :)

4x24 - The Leap

  • Robin's mosbying
Does Robin's denial of her feelings for Barney look different to you after seeing her act similarly?in Season 7's "The Best Man",?where we know she is lying? How much truth do her false (or are they?) love confessions hold? How far along do you think her feelings are by the end of Season 4 - is she in love with Barney already or on her way there?
    -
  • Why do the makers of this show repeatedly reveal so little of Robin's feelings when it comes to Barney?
Is it a matter of suspense? Do you think?the parallels?between Season 4 and Season 7 in this respect are?intentional? And why were her feelings handled differently?when they were directed at Ted?
    -
  • "But... it's Barney."
Robin's main objection to attempting a relationship with Barney seems to be his inability to commit. Do you think?the?relationship?that follows proves her right?
    -
  • "I guess my head?was saying 'nip it in the bud' because my heart was saying something else."
Robin admits to being scared and shying off because of it.?This is repeated in?Tick Tick Tick. Again, she is convinced they cannot work out as a couple and suppresses her feelings instead of giving them a chance and risking to get hurt.?What does this repetition?suggest in terms of character development when comparing?Season 4 Robin to Season 7 Robin?
    -
  • "I'm gonna marry Barney in a big church wedding, and we're gonna move to some sleepy New Hampshire town?and open a Bed and?Breakfast."
How do you think this line is to be interpreted? Does?it emphasize Robin's disapproval of domesticity and conventional married life, or does she simply not believe Barney would want to lead that kind of life with her?
What does it mean for their upcoming big church wedding? Have their views shifted, and are they more in favor of the idea of domestic life now? Or does this line lend more credibility to the theory that Barney and Robin will sneak out from the planned wedding and get married in their own style?

Second Half of Season 4

  • Barney's daddy fixation
Barney's penchant for girls with daddy issues makes more than a few appearances in the fourth season.?Does he really simply assume they're easier, or is he?subconsciously looking to bond with someone who?shares his issues? Does this support?the idea?that he does want?someone to share his life with, even if he isn't aware of it??What does this imply in regards to his relationship with Robin (who has daddy issues herself)?
    -
  • "There's lots of ways to be in a relationship"
In?episode 13,?Three Days of Snow,?Marshall tells Robin, "You just don't choose to show your love through corny rituals, and that's fine." In episode 15,?The Stinsons,?when faking a marriage Barney imitates Ted in a relationship to be more believable, but states that he finds his behavior ridiculous.
In a matter of episodes we are shown that both Robin and Barney are not the types to lead conventional relationships. What are the implications of this when it comes to Robin and Barney's future marriage?
Do you think the parallels between the two episodes are intentional, and if so, what is the goal? Are they supposed to highlight their similarity and compatibility? Are they foreshadowing their relationship and breakup in Season 5 when they act like a "normal"?couple to blank out their problems? Or something else entirely?
    -
  • Wedding hints
The writers hinted at the future wedding several times in Season 4, e.g. Barney being ready to propose in episode 14, The Possimpible, or?Robin shouting "Let's get married!" and joking about a big church wedding?in?The Leap.?How has your perception of these scenes changed now that you know the idea of the wedding dates as far back as Season 4?
    -
  • "Where does this girl live?" - "We're talking about a woman who's actually gotten Barney Stinson to commit, I'm guessing Narnia."
What are Robin's feelings when she says this in The Stinsons? Is she just expressing her doubts about Barney having a girlfriend? Or is she bitter about the possibility that someone might have succeeded in what she has?convinced herself she can't do? What do you believe?she feels for Barney at this point?
    -
  • Foreshadowing moments
Season 4 was full of lovely moments that hinted at the upcoming relationship, e.g. Barney's conversation with his mom in?The Stinsons and the ending of?Right Place, Right Time, which were definitely lacking in Season 7. Do you think there will be more again in Season 8, given that?the bride mystery is no longer an issue?
    -
  • Lily as Barney's confidante vs. Lily as Robin's confidante
Why is Lily so perceptive?in regards to?Barney's feelings?in Season 4 and so obtuse as to?Robin's feelings for Barney in Season 7 in every episode except for?The Best Man?
